How to choose a chiropractor in San Diego: 7 questions to ask first

Choosing a chiropractor is a real decision — this is your spine, after all. San Diego has hundreds of options, and they’re not all the same. Before you book anywhere, here are seven questions worth asking. (We’ve answered each the way we’d want a family member to be treated.)
1. Will you actually examine me before adjusting?
A good chiropractor starts with a real evaluation — your history, movement testing, and imaging when it’s needed — before laying a hand on you. If a clinic wants to adjust you on the first visit without understanding what’s wrong, that’s a red flag.
2. Do you find the cause, or just treat the symptom?
Lasting relief comes from addressing why you’re in pain, not just easing it for a day. Ask whether they build a plan around the root cause and tell you what to expect.
3. How long have you been practicing?
Experience matters. A practice with decades of history has seen your problem many times. (Salanger Chiropractic has cared for San Diego patients for over 40 years.)
4. Do you take my insurance — and will you check before I come in?
Cost shouldn’t be a mystery. A patient-friendly office verifies your benefits before your first visit so there are no surprises. Many also handle auto-accident and workers’-comp claims directly.
5. What does the first visit actually include?
You should know exactly what you’re paying for. A clear new-patient offer (for example, an exam, consultation, and first treatment for one price) is a good sign of a transparent practice.
6. Will I be treated by a doctor — or handed off?
Ask who will actually treat you. Continuity of care with experienced doctors usually beats a rotating cast.
7. Is the office convenient and easy to deal with?
Location, parking, hours, and how easy it is to book (can you just text them?) all matter when you’re in pain. The best care is the care you’ll actually keep up with.
The bottom line
The right chiropractor examines first, explains clearly, treats the cause, and makes the whole thing easy. If you’re in the Kearny Mesa area and want care that checks every box, we’d be glad to help.
