It’s one of the biggest reasons people put off care: the fear that an adjustment will hurt. The reality, for the vast majority of patients, is the opposite — adjustments bring relief, not pain.
What an adjustment actually feels like
A chiropractic adjustment is a quick, precise, gentle movement applied to a specific joint. Most people feel a sense of release, lightness, or improved mobility right afterward. It’s typically painless — and often immediately satisfying.
What’s that popping sound?
The “pop” (called a cavitation) is simply gas releasing from the fluid in your joint — the same harmless sound as cracking your knuckles. It’s not bones grinding, and it’s not a sign of pain. Not every adjustment even makes the sound.
Will I be sore afterward?
Some people feel mildly sore or tired the next day — similar to after a good workout — as the body adjusts. This is normal, usually mild, and passes quickly. Many people feel nothing but relief.
We adjust to your comfort

The bigger picture
Avoiding care because you’re afraid it’ll hurt often means living with pain that’s worse than any adjustment. A good first step is simply a consultation — no pressure, no surprises.
Still nervous? That’s okay. Book a consultation or text (858) 565-8645 and we’ll walk you through everything first.
