Scoliosis — a sideways curve of the spine — usually appears during the growth spurts of late childhood and the early teen years. Catching it early makes a real difference, and a simple screening is quick and painless.
What to watch for
Stand behind your child and look for:
- One shoulder higher than the other
- One shoulder blade sticking out more
- Uneven waist or hips
- A lean to one side
- Clothes that hang unevenly
A classic at-home check: have your child bend forward at the waist with arms hanging down. From behind, look for one side of the back (the ribs) being higher than the other.
Why early screening matters
Caught early, mild curves can be monitored and managed, and you have more options. Left unnoticed during a growth spurt, a curve can progress quickly. Screening is fast, gentle, and gives you peace of mind.
How we help
We provide gentle postural and spinal screenings for kids, explain clearly what we see, and — if a curve needs medical co-management or imaging — we’ll guide you to the right next step. Our care is always age-appropriate and comfortable.
A note for parents
A screening isn’t a scary appointment. It’s a few minutes that can catch something worth watching — and most of the time, it’s simply reassurance that everything looks great.
